Common misconceptions about anxiety

Anxiety is part of who a person is and can't change

Anxiety is not a "real" illness and people who have anxiety just need to get over it

Anxiety disorders can't be cured, you just have to live with them

There are quick-fix remedies for anxiety disorders


Along with counselling, some of the most effective activities for reducing anxiety and becoming more resilient include:

Learning self-compassion and treating yourself with the same compassion you would show to others you love.

Developing a healthy lifestyle, including proper nutrition, exercise and good sleep habits.

Regularly practising self-soothing techniques such as walks in nature, yoga, mindfulness and meditation

Building nurturing relationships with friends, families, and other social supports

Developing a creative activity or hobby that you can look forward to doing even when you feel anxious

Maintaining a healthy life-work balance

Noticing what helps - and doing more of it!

Mentoring Opportunities with The Young Lives Foundation

“Recruiting Mentors! Have you got some free time? Have an interest in volunteering with The Young Lives Foundation and helping young people in Kent?

We work with 10-16-year-olds who need some extra support and guidance to reduce many issues such as isolation, anti-social behaviour, school attendance and mental health. We do this by allocating them a Mentor, someone who can meet them on a weekly basis for 1:1 time and help make a difference in their life.

No experience with young people is essential, we provide full in-house training and a dedicated Coordinator along the way. If you think this is something you'd like to get involved in, make a difference and gain some amazing experience, please private message me so I can reach you directly!
