General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
GDPR is a new data protection law which comes into full effect in 2018. It sets out the main principles of data protection and the responsibilities organisations have when handling personal data.
It protects individuals personal information and improves their control over how it is collected stored, shared and used
Counsellors who collect personal and sensitive information from you including name email address and health information are deemed data controllers. We process your information meaning we record and hold the personal information you provide and carry out operations on that information. We collect this information for the purposes of record-keeping for the proper and necessary administration of our counselling service along with responding to unsolicited communication from you to which we believe you would expect a response.
The law requires us to tell you about your rights and our obligations to you in regards to the processing and control of your personal data. We do this now by requesting that you read the information provided at Know Your Privacy Rights
KACP do not share, or sell, or disclose to a third party any details you provide to us in communications.
KACP Automatically delete your email, telephone text/information once it can reasonably be assumed that you do not require our services.
Storing of Information
If you decide to use our counselling service we may store your information electronically and physically. Names and contact details are stored separately to other personal information. Notes to assist the therapeutic process will be kept in paper form and will be stored securely locked in anonymised form. We have regular supervision meaning we discuss our clients with another therapist. No identifiable information will be shared. Your information will be stored for only as long as considered necessary. You have the right to see what personal data of yours we hold, and you can ask us to correct any factual errors. Provided the legal minimum period has elapsed you can also ask us to erase your records.
